Monsanto's worst fear

Monsanto’s bogus research is the reason the EU approved toxic glyphosate. ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌

Stack of glyphosate safety study reports

A,

Monsanto must still be fuming: The European Court of Justice ordered the release of its bogus glyphosate studies to the public.

It's a big, big deal.

Secret studies were the reason the European Union re-licensed cancer-linked glyphosate for another five years back in 2017. And Monsanto fought tooth and nail to keep things that way.

But this stops now.

If enough members like you chip in, we can hire independent scientists to sift through the industry's bogus new research and prove once and for all: the EU should immediately ban glyphosate!

But we need to be quick: with renewal coming up fast, we need to use it to get the EU to act now and ban glyphosate. Are you in?

Can you chip in to expose Monsanto and Bayer and stop glyphosate for good?

Have you asked if they'll take a stand against Trans Mountain? ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌‌
Stand.earth

Since I last reached out to you, 84 federal election candidates (and counting!) have signed our pledge committing to fight the Trans Mountain pipeline if elected.

What made them do this? They were flooded with thousands of emails from constituents in their own ridings proving that their position on Trans Mountain could win or lose them votes.

Eighty-four is a great start, but to truly put cancelling this toxic tar sands project back on the political agenda, we need more candidates from all parties to be feeling the heat.

Will you help step up the pressure by emailing candidates in Esquimalt--Saanich--Sooke today?

TAKE ACTION

The Trans Mountain pipeline is already coming to the fore as a key issue for voters in this election. Last week the leader of the NDP, Jagmeet Singh, was questioned by the media about his position on the pipeline, and we know the Liberals and Conservatives will face questions during the upcoming leaders' debates.

There's still time to walk away from this project – and some of its corporate backers are already doing that. Fifteen insurance companies have...

Lets make sure climate is at the center of the Leaders Debate

On September 8th, right before the federal leaders' debate, take action for the climate. r1

Paov,

Wildfires are blazing across the country and thousands are still on evacuation alert.

We’re in the middle of a climate emergency and every single federal party leader in the country needs to demonstrate that they are ready to get serious about this crisis.

That’s why, on September 8th, right before the official Federal Leaders’ Debates, people from coast to coast to coast are taking action to ensure that climate is a top issue in this election.

There will be actions in 60 communities across the country. Check out our action map to find an action near you.

If there isn’t an action near your community, consider signing up to host one and we will support you every step of the way to make it happen.

Momentum is building. As communities prepare to take action on September 8th, politicians across party lines have started to feel the heat and they are strengthening their positions on climate action. But we know that in the middle of a climate emergency, we need more than just words. We need courage and we need action from our political leaders.

Let’s...

Meet the superrich donors behind the far right

Right-wing donors pushing “the big lie” want to stay out of the spotlight. We won’t let that happen.

Right-wing conspiracy theories — like “the big lie” that Donald Trump won the 2020 presidential election — thrive on the appearance that they’re a spontaneous expression of grassroots dissent.

But Intercept reporters have unearthed documents revealing how millionaire and billionaire donors have quietly financed a web of nonprofit organizations promoting “the big lie” and other misinformation — using legal structures designed to hide their identities.

Our team has scoured public records and reviewed hacked data to pull back the curtain on how these organizations are funded and operate, showing the close relationship between conservative dark money and far-right extremism that turned disastrously violent on January 6.

As “the big lie” continues to spread, Intercept reporters are scouring thousands of pages of documents and gigabytes of...

Uyghurs

Is HUGO BOSS profiting from forced labor? The luxury brand is tied to suppliers in a Chinese region where hundreds of thousands of Uyghurs are forced to work on plantations and cotton manufactures.

Tell HUGO BOSS to immediately cut Uyghur forced labor out of its supply chain.

A,

Half a million Uyghur forced laborers break their backs daily on the cotton fields of East Turkestan (Uyghur autonomous region of Xinjiang, People’s Republic, China). Far away from their homes and families, they are exploited as unpaid and cheap labor on state-run plantations and manufactures, picking and processing cotton for fashion brands like HUGO BOSS.

SumOfUs confronted HUGO BOSS about its involvement in these human rights violations in East Turkestan -- but the company refuses to take definitive measures to cut Uyghur forced labor from its supply chain.

The fashion giant depends on its image as an expensive, luxury brand -- a scandal on forced labor would challenge this. Together we can...

What cable news wont tell you about Afghanistan

If we don’t learn the right lessons from Afghanistan, those mistakes will be repeated again and again and again.

For the last three weeks, cable news talking heads — many literally on the payroll of military contractors — have expressed shock and horror at the events unfolding in Afghanistan.

How could the Taliban have taken over so quickly? Why wasn’t there a more orderly transition of power?

But a better question is this: Why are so many alleged “experts” surprised?

The vital task of journalism now is to call B.S. on the warmongers trying to hide their failures and protect their profits — and to make sure that the American people know the truth about how and why the U.S. war in Afghanistan was such a complete debacle.

Because if the U.S. doesn’t learn the right lessons from Afghanistan, then it’s only a matter...

A,

We've been so successful using shareholder action to get companies to change their bad behaviour...that they're trying to shut the whole program down!

Just last year, a SumOfUs shareholder resolution forced Apple to publish its first-ever human rights policy. So now they made a new rule -- anyone who wants to bring this kind of resolution will need to hold thousands of shares...and they set a deadline to buy them that's just a few days away.

They're trying to silence everyone but the richest shareholders. But A, we can beat them at their own game.

Today, were endorsing 7 game changers

If elected, these candidates could upend the status quo of climate inaction in Canada. r1

Paov,

Thanks to your pressure, the climate crisis is rising up as a top issue in this election. Yesterday, the Trudeau government unveiled their climate plan and it included some major promises including regulating oil and gas emissions and funding for green jobs.

But as always, the Liberals' plan falls far short of the kind of bold action we need to tackle the climate emergency. The $2 billion they're putting into green jobs is less than half of what they’re spending to build the Trans Mountain pipeline and $16 billion less than the subsidies they gave to fossil fuels in 2020 alone. Their pledge to regulate oil and gas emissions doesn’t come into force for 4 years, and it lacks the kind of teeth needed to reign in Big Oil at the pace and scale we need to meet the climate emergency. The Trudeau government has had 6 years to lead with courage and deliver real action on the climate crisis. Instead, they bought a pipeline and handed billions to the fossil fuel industry, while dragging their feet on the just transition they promised to workers and...

Procter & Gamble's human rights infringement and forest degradation

Will you get on board so we can vote P&G board members off? ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌‌
Stand.earth

Procter & Gamble’s (P&G) annual general meeting is less than two months away and we’ve got a giant opportunity to influence the corporation’s governance by shaking up its board of directors.

Last week, when I emailed you about the Vote No campaign, I mentioned two key board members – Angela Braly and James McNerney. It was announced on Friday that McNerney will not be seeking re-election! That means we are that much closer to reshaping the direction of P&G and stopping its forest destruction. Hurray!

But we still have to hold Angela Braly accountable for her role in failing to address human rights and environmental violations in the pulp and paper supply chains of the world’s largest consumer goods company.

Seven thousand Stand.earth members are on board to get this corporation and its board members who’ve been putting profit over people and the planet for decades to do the right thing.

Will you join us and push investors to not re-elect Braly?

VOTE NO

Thank you for being a champion for the forests and the planet.
