The ‘One Democratic State Campaign’ for a Multicultural Democratic State in Palestine/Israel

Jeff Halper

As the Leonard Cohen song goes, “everybody knows” the two-state solution is dead and gone. Zionism’s 120-year quest to Judaize Palestine – to transform Palestine into the Land of Israel – has been completed. Every Israeli government since 1967 has refused to seriously entertain the notion of a genuinely independent and viable Palestinian state alongside the state of Israel. Any possibility of a viable Palestinian state in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT) has long been buried under the massive “facts on the grounds.” Israel’s Matrix of Control has rendered its control over the entire country permanent.

The two-state solution nonetheless continues to be the solution-of-choice of governments. It provides a...

MST Letter to the Brazilian People

Landless Rural Workers' Movement

Brazil is experiencing a deep economic, political, social and environmental crisis as a result of the international crisis of capitalism and the inability of this system to solve the contradictions it generates. In this context, authoritarian solutions, such as coup d’états and attacks on democracy, have been the formula adopted to guarantee the implementation of a violent neoliberal offensive that removes the rights of the workers while at the same time hijacks and subordinates the State to the interests of large business groups.

In order to confront them, it is necessary to have clarity and to identify who is responsible for this crisis and the political instability in which we live: international financial capital;...

pipelines

Right now, the federal government is meeting to consider new environmental laws that could exclude most tar sands projects from a climate assessment.

Today is the final day to flood Natural Resource Minister Carr voice mail to ensure that the new regulations protect our climate and respect Indigenous rights -- not corporate profits.

Call Minister Carr

A,

It’s ridiculous: The Liberal government’s proposed replacement for the National Energy Board (NEB) and new impact assessment will exclude most new tar sands projects.

This legislation, Bill C-69, has the potential to show Canada’s leadership in the fight against climate change. Unfortunately, in its current state, it’s more of a concession to...

Liberal-led Committee to shut down debate on water and energy bill
Tonight a key decision will be made about Bill C-69, an omnibus bill that makes sweeping changes to Canada’s water, environmental and energy laws. In fact, this Bill hands even more power to corporations in environmental, water, and energy decision making.

The Great March of Return and Israel’s Attack on Gaza: Canadian Opposition

Open letter from Canadian organizations on Gaza massacre

The Canadian BDS Coalition and many of its member groups and friends are among the more than 50 signatories to this open letter sent on May 16th to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Minister of Foreign Affairs Chrystia Freeland.

Dear Prime Minister Trudeau and Minister Freeland:

We are concerned Canadians who cannot remain indifferent and quiet to the massacre of innocent civilian Palestinians whose only crime is their peaceful protest of a brutal and illegal occupation.

Palestinians in Gaza live in an open prison denied basic necessities, electricity, clean water and medicines. The UN has already declared Gaza an unlivable place. How...

Rebuild Public Hospitals and Long-Term Care

After touring Ontario in recent weeks, Ontario Health Coalition spokeswoman Natalie Mehra returned to Toronto on 16 May 2018 at a press conference outside the Emergency Department at Mount Sinai Hospital to talk about the crisis in access to healthcare. Noting that the Coalition’s mandate is to protect public healthcare in the public interest, she said that the group has chosen its words carefully and has not used the word "crisis" since the 1990s until recently when the overcrowding situation in Ontario’s hospitals truly reached crisis proportions.

The coalition released its platform for the election in Toronto this morning. Called "Time to Rebuild" the coalition has highlighted two key "asks" for all political parties leading into June 7th’s provincial election to fix the crisis:

Trudeau, a Big Oil bail out is the wrong move.

Let's show Trudeau the political cost of writing a blank cheque for Big OIl r1

Friends,

Earlier this week, Federal Finance Minister Bill Morneau announced that the Trudeau government is willing to write a blank cheque to bail out the Kinder Morgan pipeline and tanker project.1

The Trudeau government clearly thinks they can get away with these dirty dealings without losing their support base. Let’s show them they can’t. E-mail Trudeau and his Ministers to let them know that a Big Oil bailout is the wrong move.

It’s unbelievable. The same government that was elected on a platform that promised real action on climate change, a nation to nation relationship with First Nations, and an end to fossil fuel subsidies now wants to use billions of our tax dollars to build a massive climate wrecking pipeline that doesn’t have Indigenous consent and indemnify a...

Bell's outrageous plan to dismantle Net Neutrality

A,

We could be on the verge of protecting net neutrality in Canada. A House of Commons committee just recommended that the federal government use its authority, under Section 12 of the Telecommunications Act, to protect net neutrality in the event that the CRTC rules in favour of Bell and Fairplay Canada.

This is their way of saying this dangerous proposal can't go through.

But the fight isn't over yet. Bell and Fairplay are going on the offensive to get their proposal through.

Over 95,000 people have already signed the petition. Will you please join me in signing the petition to Bell, Rogers, and Cineplex to drop their "blacklist" proposal now?

Thanks for all you do,
Emma, Angus, Amelia, and the SumOfUs team

P.S. Privacy Expert Michael Geist has also just blown the cover on a massive revelation that Bell met privately with the CRTC months before it formally...
