Landslide Victory for Abortion Rights in Ireland

Anne Conway

"A stunning victory" was how I described the results from the referendum on removing the constitutional ban on abortion in an Irish Times article on Monday 28th. The vote for lifting the ban was passed by a resounding two-thirds majority of 66.4 per cent for Yes. The Irish people have declared in this vote that the sanctimonious hypocrites of the pro-life campaign are no longer free to judge and shame women for deciding what is best for their lives.

It wasn’t a sweetness and light campaign. It was vicious, despite the playing down by the Yes campaign of the behaviour of many in the No camp. Exit polls showed 42 per cent of voters were...

This is how we win PR in BC

It’s been just one week since the BC Attorney General David Eby unveiled his recommendations for the referendum on electoral reform -- and vested interests from the “no” side are already trying to sabotage it.

“No” side political operatives wasted no time in plastering the media with their anti-proportional representation (PR) rhetoric, and they’re pouring big money into a vicious propaganda campaign to scare voters away from PR. [1][2]

This referendum is a once in a lifetime opportunity for British Columbians to change the way we do politics, and we can’t afford to let political insiders who are clinging to a system that has left their power unchecked for years jeopardize this chance to upgrade our democracy.

But anti-PR misinformation is already spreading across the province, and if we want to counter it, we need to get our campaign off the ground now. Will you chip in so we can get to work, and drown out the anti-PR campaign propaganda that’s already spreading across the province?

What a day!

I’ve been at Leadnow since 2013 and I’ve never seen a day of action this big come together this quickly.

Yesterday, at more than 100 snap actions across the country, the Leadnow community showed up massive numbers to show Trudeau that we won’t let him use our tax dollars to buy Kinder Morgan’s failing pipeline and tanker project.

Here are some of my favourite photos from the National Day of Action to Stop the Kinder Morgan Buyout:

It was a team effort, with huge support from too many organizations to name. The fact that we managed to pull off a massive National Day of Action in just 6 days shows that despite Trudeau’s continued attempts to ram...

What's at Stake in the Ontario Election

What’s at Stake in the Ontario Election

David Bush

With just days to go until Ontario voters go to the polls it is worth remembering what is at stake in this election.

The Ontario Liberals have been in power since 2003. It is clear their government is well past its due date. Years of scandals, Bay Street policies and austerity have left a sour taste in the Ontario electorate’s mouth. Last Saturday, in an unprecedented announcement, Kathleen Wynne conceded that the Liberals will not be forming the next government. The question before the voters now is whether they will have a government led by Doug Ford and the Tories or the New Democrats (NDP).

So what’s in store if Ford wins? It is...
