Open letter calls on Canada to make serious changes and start working for peace in the complex Ukraine situation
"The way that Canada can be useful at this moment is to stand up to hawkish forces within our own country and amongst our allies, to stand up to weapons lobbyists and those who would profit from a horrible war, and to work relentlessly for peace," notes a new open letter from Canadian Friends Service Committee....
Paov, can you make this important call?

Friends,
Last Friday, the Trans Mountain corporation announced the cost of the publicly-owned Trans Mountain pipeline skyrocketed to $21.6 billion. Minutes later, the Trudeau government announced it will stop further public funding to the pipeline. This is a huge victory for our movement. We’ve spent over a year calling on Trudeau to defund Trans Mountain — our pressure finally paid off.
This victory demonstrates what the climate movement can achieve when we act together. With the latest IPCC report set to be released February 28th, we have a critical opportunity to organize and deliver climate solutions that truly meet the urgency of the crises we face.
There’s so much to take stock of at this moment. That’s why 350 Canada and the Council of Canadians are coming together on March 1st to host a conversation with climate leaders about the next steps for our movement for climate action. Will you join us?
Here are the call details:
WHAT: A Conversation with Climate Leaders: Where do we go next?
WHEN: Tuesday, March 1 - 4pm PT / 5pm MT / 6pm CT / 7pm ET / 8pm AT / 8:30pm NT

A,
Before dawn on one of the coldest nights of the year, Israeli security forces raided a home while a family slept. Officers pulled grandparents, parents, and children from bed and assaulted them, then quickly destroyed the home and everything in it, leaving 18 Palestinians homeless.
For decades, Israel has done this again and again, demolishing Palestinian homes to build settlements. Until now.
As Israel’s #1 trading partner, the EU has the leverage to stop the destruction. But so far, they’ve failed to do it. So tomorrow, a group of international law experts are launching a new European Citizens' Initiative (ECI) to force the EU to end trade with all illegal settlements.
All we need to do is help them gather 1 million signatures and the EU will be required to consider the ban.
It will entail tremendous effort – everything from canvassing door to door to a massive online ad campaign. But we’ve done...

PAOV — “A shocking 20,000 elephants are killed every year for their ivory. Scientists and conservationists agree that at this rate, both African and Asian elephants will be extinct in the wild within our lifetime.” Over 642,000 people are urging the government to end the import, export, and domestic trade of ivory in Canada. Many countries around the world, including the UK, France, and the European Union, have banned the sale of ivory. You can make a difference at this critical moment by signing the petition now.

Who’s funding the “grassroots” Freedom Convoy protests that have disrupted Canada and shut down border crossings over the past month?
Plenty of Americans, as it turns out — including a right-wing billionaire and hundreds of members of U.S. militia groups.
The Intercept has examined a huge trove of hacked documents that includes over 100,000 donor records related to the Freedom Convoy. The data show that most of the donors are American, and many have ties to other extremist causes.
Huge news on the Trans Mountain pipeline

Paov,
This morning we received some huge news.
First, the government-owned Trans Mountain corporation issued a press release announcing that the cost of the project had nearly doubled from $12.6 billion to $21.4 billion.1 Within minutes, the federal government announced that it would cease any further funding to the publicly owned Trans Mountain pipeline project.2
This is a huge moment and it’s all thanks to you! You were part of a mass-movement of people that challenged this climate-wrecking project from Day 1.
Now, this is our chance to finally put an end to Trans Mountain once and for all. Send a message to Trudeau right now and tell him to cancel this pipeline once and for all.
Trans Mountain never made any sense to build during a climate crisis. Now, after a year where the pipeline was delayed by climate-fueled fires, heat, floods and landslides, the government is finally suspending public funding to this project.
The opportunity to cancel this climate-wrecking pipeline has never been clearer.
Since it was first proposed, the Trans Mountain pipeline has been opposed by a massive, national, Indigenous-led movement that has...

The Atacama Desert is fast fashion's latest victim!
Let's pressure Chile's new President, Gabriel Boric, to regulate this destructive industry once and for all!

A,
A giant mountain of clothing is growing in Chile’s Atacama Desert and some of the best-known fashion brands, like Nike and TJ Maxx, are responsible.
But there’s hope, with the newly elected leftist president, who is set to take office in March.
Gabriel Boric is currently setting his presidential priorities for the coming months – so the time is now to amp up the pressure to make sure that regulating the fashion industry is high on his list.
A, if we gather enough support, Gabriel Boric and his cabinet won't be able to ignore us.
Gabriel Boric: Regulating the fashion industry should be one of your top priorities
