BREAKING: Conservatives trying to push new pipelines in Parliament

I’m disgusted and appalled. This morning, the Conservative Party presented a motion in the House of Commons calling on Canada to fast track and subsidize pipelines as a response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.1
It is truly diabolical to exploit a humanitarian crisis to line the pockets of the fossil fuel industry. That’s why we’re not wasting any time.
This motion is already being debated and will be voted on soon, so we need to make sure our MPs hear from us ASAP. Will you take two minutes now to call your MP and tell them to reject the Conservative Party’s motion? Our one-click tool and pre-written script makes it easy to take action.

Last night, over 500 people from across the country joined us for an online conversation with climate leaders about how our movement for climate justice can respond to this moment of climate crisis, war, and the rise of the far right. As one of our guests, Avi Lewis, pointed out at the start of the call, there’s no better antidote to the uncertainty and despair of these past few weeks than to gather with hundreds of other people committed to justice and solidarity.
Juan Vargas, another guest and organizer with Climate Justice Edmonton, said something that really stuck with me. He talked about how right wing politicians like Alberta’s Premier Jason Kenney are shamelessly using the war in Ukraine to push for fossil fuel expansion and how important it is for our movement to push back without fear. As Juan put it, “This is our moment to dream big and push for a just transition instead of continuing to accept small gains.”

With everything happening in the world right now, I wasn’t sure how to start this email. We are processing war, mass-displacement, and today’s release of the latest Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report -- with a sobering message from the world’s best climate scientists.
Then, I read a quote from the Ukrainian delegate to the IPCC. Ahead of IPCC’s release of it’s latest report on climate impacts he said:
“We will not surrender in Ukraine, and we hope the world will not surrender in building a climate resilient future… Human-induced climate change and the war on Ukraine have the same roots -- fossil fuels -- and our dependence on them.”1
This line gave so much clarity to this moment in history. Fossil fuels are driving both war and warming. The case has never been stronger to leave this toxic fuel source in the ground and, building a more just, fair and sustainable world.

What we didn’t know was that lawyers and lobbyists would begin jockeying for their piece of the pie, thanks to President Joe Biden’s decision to take half the money to settle lawsuits brought by the families of 9/11 victims.
