125-year-old turtle at risk

Email template | Change.orgr1

PAOV — Grace, a 125-year-old snapping turtle in central Ontario, is still at risk of losing her wetland hibernation habitat. Grace is a beloved and well-known fixture in the community, as she returns to the same wetland every year to spend the winter. The wetland is scheduled to be filled in, which will put Grace and other animals using the wetland to pass the winter at serious risk. You can help protect Grace and her wetland habitat by signing the petition now.

Help Save Grace the Ancient Turtle and her friends, by ending the filling of wetlands!

Apple

A,

SumOfUs members have put the world’s most valuable company on notice. Again.

At Friday’s AGM, 34% Apple investors defied the company’s instructions and voted for our shareholder proposal on forced labor. Even the world’s largest sovereign wealth fund -- Norway's, at $1.3 trillion -- voted with us.

It’s a vote tally that sends a clear message to Apple bosses that they have to take serious steps to protect the workers in its supply chain who make components for your iPhone and MacBook.

Just two years ago our proposal secured 40% investor support and a few months later Apple published its first ever human rights policy.

Now, it has to live up to its promises on forced labor.

We were everywhere Apple bosses turned during their big week. Two days before the AGM, we released a video of real Apple customers reacting to the news that Apple products are implicated in forced labor, that was seen a staggering 841 thousand times in total.

Have you seen it yet? You can watch the video on YouTube, Facebook, or Twitter.

Amazon ripped apart

The Brazilian government has approved a railway that will tear apart 933km of Amazon forest and decimate swathes of Indigenous lands.

Indigenous leaders are asking for OUR support, it is urgent.

We can't ignore this. Let's show greedy companies and politicians that this global community is against the Deadly Railway:

A,

The Brazilian government has approved a railway that will tear apart 933km of Amazon forest and decimate swathes of Indigenous lands.

The "Ferrogrão" project is being rushed through by Bolsonaro’s government, with heavy backing from agribusiness giants like Bunge, ADM and Cargill - who stand to increase their profits in the area.

Any moment now, the erasure of ancient trees and Indigenous communities' livelihoods could begin – but we can still stop this horror.

Indigenous leaders are urgently asking for OUR support – if people across the world show we're watching, we can ramp up the pressure on decision-makers in Brazil and abroad to halt this atrocity.

Let's show greedy companies and politicians...

Russian armoured vehicles near Ukraine's border

A,

Ukraine's people are in panic, hiding in basements and subway stations while the ground above them shakes from bombardment.

A few vetted charities on the ground are positioned for immediate help -- from medical support to evacuation to providing food and water. But we know how slow governments are to intervene.

Join us to demand a Just Transition off fossil fuels r1

Paov,

We are a week away from the national Day of Action for a Just Transition Act on March 12th. In case you missed it, over 40 communities from coast to coast are organizing to bring a bold vision for a Just Transition off fossil fuels to life.

We need all hands on deck to make this action as big and bold as possible. Will you sign up to attend an event in your community? Click here to see all the events that are planned for March 12th.

Don't see an action near you? It is not too late to sign up to host an action in your community. We will send you resources and be with you every step of the way to organize your community for a Just Transition.

The stakes couldn’t be higher right now. Earlier this week, the most worrying Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) climate report was released reminding us the window to take critical action is closing rapidly.1 Then yesterday, the Conservative Party presented a motion in the House of Commons calling on Canada to fast track and subsidize pipelines as a response to...

Better is possible

This is a test r1

Dear Friend,

At the BCCLA, we believe better is possible.

We believe we can live in a more just, more equitable world.

I stand at the front line, working with policymakers, advocacy groups and community organizations to demand laws be reformed.

I see my co-workers bring their best arguments to the courts, so that the rights of many marginalized groups will not be infringed upon over and over again.

I see our supporters like you attend public workshops, or contact us to voice your concerns so that we can create a better and more just future for our next generation.

I am encouraged by the group of supporters we have. Because of you, we know better is possible.

Will you join our family as a BCCLA member, so that we can create a lasting legacy of change?

Will you donate $5 to help uncover the truth on Ukraine?

In the fog of war, where can you go for reporting and analysis that you can trust?

With Russian bombs falling on Ukraine and refugees streaming out of the country, people are hungry for answers about what’s happening and what it all means.

But time and again, we’ve seen major news outlets fall short in times of war, trading journalistic credentials for flag-waving jingoism.

So in the fog of war, where can you go for bold, independent reporting — not just on troop maneuvers, but on who profits behind the scenes?

At The Intercept, you’ll never see us pass along Pentagon or Kremlin spin as fact. Our values don’t change depending on which nation’s military is dropping bombs. We believe that it’s more important to be accurate than to be “first.” And as a nonprofit news outlet, we’re not here to chase ratings...

Putin

All but one western energy giant has announced plans to quit Russia over the invasion of Ukraine: TotalEnergies.

Tell Total (TotalEnergies) to stop enabling Putin’s war, and tell European governments to get off fossil fuels.

A,

Total is the only western energy giant that hasn’t announced plans to quit Russia. Shell is shedding its ties, BP is going beyond Putin, and Exxon announced it's exiting too.

Simply put, Total’s greed is enabling Putin’s war.

But if enough of us raise our voices we can make Total divest from Russia, and get Europe to speed up going fossil-free – cutting off the stream of cash from gas projects and pipelines in the Russian Arctic that feed right into Putin’s war machine.

Tell Total to divest from Russia’s oil and gas sector, and Europe to go fossil-free.

Total (now TotalEnergies) has invested billions into climate-wrecking fossil fuel...

Abandoning family pets

Email template | Change.orgr1

PAOV — “If we don’t take care of their pets, we are putting their humans in danger.” British Columbia does not provide for family pets in their natural disaster response plans. This means that no pet food is provided at emergency shelters and hotel pet fees are not covered or reimbursed. Following November’s devastating flooding, petition starter Nicole heard from dozens of people - pet owners desperate for help to keep their pets safe and fed. Over 47,000 people have joined Nicole in urging the government to include family pets and their needs in disaster response plans so that families are not forced to abandon pets in emergency situations. You can show your support by signing the petition now.
