Hey Paov,
It’s official, your actions just got G20 leaders to step up for poverty.
The G20 summit was held this weekend in Hamburg, Germany — a collection of countries that make up over 85% of the planet’s GDP. In other words, the countries that have the fiscal power to play a critical role in ending poverty.
Which is why over 750,000 of you tweeted, called, petitioned, and emailed G20 leaders demanding them to make concrete commitments towards the Sustainable Development Goals for a world where no one...

John Bellamy Foster interviewed by Juan Cruz Ferre
Climate change is out of control. It is already too late to avoid soaring temperatures, scarce water, and extreme weather. But the financial structure of capitalism is tied to fossil fuels. Market-based solutions are ineffectual. John Bellamy Foster, a professor of sociology at the University of Oregon and the editor of Monthly Review, speaks about the kind of program necessary to stop this catastrophe. He was interviewed by Juan Cruz Ferre for Left Voice where it was first published.
Juan Cruz Ferre (JCF): There is overwhelming evidence that demonstrates how anthropogenic climate change is out of control and will lead to global environmental catastrophe -- without a major overhaul of energy production....

Paov, the Canadian government is only weeks away1 from heading into renegotiations on the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) — and it wants your feedback by July 18.2
Remember the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP)? Those same lobbyists want to carbon copy over the worst parts of the TPP into NAFTA and, once again, put Big Media giants before everyday Canadians like yourself.3
But if we seize this opportunity to flood the government’s consultation with our concerns about NAFTA’s potential to...

Trump Is Trying to Make NAFTA Even Worse
Ethan Earle
Many on the Left have been deeply critical of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) since before it was fast-tracked into law by former President Bill Clinton in 1994. Now, President Donald Trump’s current plan to renegotiate NAFTA is poised to make the massive trade deal even worse.
In late May, a loose coalition of civil society groups gathered in Mexico City to discuss this upcoming renegotiation. Participants included the AFL-CIO, Canadian Labour Congress and over one hundred other labour, environmental, and immigrant rights organizations from across Mexico, the United States and Canada. The meeting produced a joint declaration opposing a Trump-led NAFTA renegotiation and marked the kickoff of the latest international campaign...

City councillors support a ban on retail pet sales r33
Dear PAOV,
The City of Vancouver just took a huge step forward for animals. After thousands of citizens voiced their support, city councillors voted to ban the sale of cats, dogs, and rabbits in pet stores!
Animal Justice lawyer Anna Pippus spoke at the City Council meeting in favour of the ban. We told councillors how a retail ban on pet sales will help shut down abusive puppy mills that supply stores, and reduce euthanasia rates in shelters.
Commercial breeders often breed animals until their bodies give out, keeping them in squalid conditions with serious injuries and diseases. In two recent B.C. puppy mill busts, investigators

Minister LeBlanc just released a shocking plan that would allow oil and gas exploration in 80% of the Laurentian Channel Marine Protected Area — threatening turtles, whales, and corals.
Big Oil lobbied for these rights, but the plan isn’t final. A huge public outcry could get the Minister to change his mind.
Send LeBlanc a message calling on him to ban oil and gas activities in our protected ocean areas.

When a group of black women activists coined the term “reproductive justice” in 1994, they weren’t simply adding to the lexicon of social justice. With two words, they were making an argument with profound implications—namely, that the struggle for reproductive rights and health could never be separated from the larger struggle against racism, economic inequality, homophobia, and transphobia. Because it is at the intersection of these forces where people must make crucial decisions about their bodies, families, and lives. More than 20 years later, the struggle continues. But with the reproductive justice movement as a guide, a rising number of progressive organizers have come to see why forging and affirming these connections is an integral element of lasting, transformative change.
