Dear PAOV,
Thanks to the help of supporters like you, we just won an exciting victory for animals!
Accessories store Ardene was caught red-handed selling socks with real animal fur pom-poms—but telling customers that the socks were made with faux fur. Mislabelling fur products is a serious offence. That's why Animal Justice stepped in and filed a legal complaint with federal authorities.
And now, Ardene has been forced to take the fur socks off their shelves and issue an apology! You can get the details in this story in the National Observer.
PAOV, thousands of supporters like you signed our petition last month demanding that Ardene take fur off of their shelves....

Urgent Call On Day 40 of Palestinian Hunger Strike
Palestinian Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions National Committee
Hundreds of Palestinian political prisoners are now approaching their critical sixth week on hunger strike, and they have made an urgent appeal for international solidarity. As they hit Day 40 of their courageous Dignity Strike on May 26, the Palestinian BDS National Committee (BNC) calls for intensifying global Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) campaigns to amplify the prisoners’ legitimate and just demands.
In particular, the BNC calls for immediate international action toward implementing a comprehensive military embargo on Israel, similar to that imposed against apartheid South Africa in the past. International bodies -- including banks, private military corporations, research centers, universities and governments -- must stop enabling Israel's...

Dear Paov, One of the most common things I hear about polio is, “Polio? That’s still a thing?”
As a Global Citizen, you likely know that while we’re closer than ever to making sure it soon won’t be “a thing,” we’ve still got work to do.
That’s why I’m reaching out today. In just one week, Global Citizen’s Official E-Petition will be closing. That means we have just seven days to tell Prime Minister Trudeau that Canadians want to see a bold pledge towards ending polio.
Take action now and...

Brazil’s Political Rupture and the Left’s Opportunity
Fora Temer -- eleições diretas já!
Alfredo Saad-Filho
"Out with Temer -- direct elections now!" Amid meltdown in Brazil, the left calls for democracy, while the right must find ways to deny the people a voice.
The Brazilian Workers’ Party (Partido dos Trabalhadores, PT) won the country's presidential elections four times in a row; first with Luís Inácio Lula da Silva (2003-06, 2007-10), then with his hand-picked successor, Dilma Rousseff (2011-14, 2015-16). During its 13 years in office, the PT changed Brazil in many ways; four are principally worth mentioning, as they would come to play key roles in the elite conspiracy to impeach Dilma Rousseff and destroy her party.
First, the PT democratized the...

The New (Canadian) Imperialism, in Honduras: Ideology, the News Media, Pedagogy and Pop Culture
Tyler Shipley interviewed by Tanner Mirrlees
Tyler Shipley's new book, Ottawa and Empire: Canada and the Military Coup in Honduras (Between the Lines, 2017) is a focused, lucid, and valuable contribution to current historical materialist research on Canada as a "secondary imperial power."
Tanner Mirrlees interviews Shipley about the book and they address pertinent topics such as: the meaning of Canadian imperialism, the Canadian State's coercive and persuasive power, the gap between Canadian foreign policy words and deeds, Canada's imperial culture-ideologies, the Canadian news media as a propaganda model, the praxis of anti-imperial pedagogy, and popular culture as a site of Left struggles.
Tanner Mirrlees is an Assistant Professor...
