New Year for Solidarity

Friends,As we enter the new year our Victoria Friends of Cuba committee would like to wish all the best to all of you who have been supportive of our efforts and bracing ourselves in support and solidarity with Cuba while working to put an end to the criminal and illegal US blockade. We also wish that this new year will be a better one for Cuba and its citizens, and we are fully prepared to work to achieve it alongside them in the hope that we can count on your continued support.
This new year marks 64 years since Cuba freed itself from US control. The first liberated country in Latin America and the Caribbean. Allthough many other countries in the region have been and are attempting to do the same, Cuba has been made to pay a high price for it. Beginning with an invasion and a blockade fully planned and funded by the US government, and continuing with atrocious deeds like their support for mercenary, mafia, and terrorist organisations that have caused the Cuban people untold suffering, devastation, and death.
Despite the harsh external circumstances that Cubans have had to endure since 1959, they have not only resisted...

Will you help us defend and strengthen public health care in 2023?

NationBuilder r1

Dear Paov,

Thank you for your support of public health care in 2022. Your commitment to accessible and affordable health care for all resulted in a victory at the BC Court of Appeal where a panel of three judges unanimously dismissed Cambie Surgeries Corporation’s (CSC) appeal.

While there is much to celebrate about the BC Court of Appeal upholding the BC Supreme Court’s decision, the fight isn’t over.

Cambie Surgeries Corporation has filed a leave to appeal at the Supreme Court of Canada. If the Supreme Court of Canada decides to hear the case, we’ll need all hands on deck to not only ensure access to public health care in BC, but across the country.

Paov, could you chip in $5, $10 or $20 to our legal fund?

If the case goes to the Supreme Court of Canada, we want to make sure we can defend public health care with a strong legal team. In order to make...

The power of us

NationBuilder r1

Hi Paov. It's nice to meet you.

My name is Noal. You may not be familiar with my name because I recently joined the BC Health Coalition as your Campaigner.

In my four weeks at the BCHC, I’ve had the pleasure of meeting coalition members in-person at the BC Federation of Labour Convention and online at our Annual General Meeting. I’m inspired by the coalition membership’s commitment to strengthening public health care by promoting public solutions to our most challenging health care issues.

Your commitment to defending public health care means more equitable access to health care for all British Columbians. Your support will help us collectively fight to ensure everyone has access to health care based on need and not on their ability to pay. Will you support our work heading into the new year by making an end-of-year gift?

Your December 2022 monthly update from the
BC Health Coalition

UPDATE

Beyond Prohibition

BC is experiencing a public health crisis stemming from an influx in toxic drug supply. Alongside our partners at the Canadian Drug Policy Coalition (CDPC), the BC Health Coalition convened a dialogue earlier this fall to learn from People Who Use Drugs (PWUDs) and their advocates, in order to gain a deeper understanding of the drug policy landscape in BC.

Nearly 50 members of the coalition representing 11 organizations participated, including provincial and local leadership from labour unions, organizers from locals, member activists, community and nonprofit leadership, and frontline workers. As a result of the dialogue among our coalition members, we published a report presenting a summary and key recommendations. Read the report - Beyond Prohibition.
