I am on my way to the USA for 5 days to give talks in DC and Boston and I
can't wait to go back to my beloved but suffering Palestine. Just before we
left I paid respect to family of Muataz Zawahreh (a cousin of one of my
master students at Bethlehem University). I dread further losses in the
coming days.

This election is really important for Canadian public health care.

It’s hard for many of us to get a family doctor, 1 in 10 Canadians can't afford their medications, and many seniors end up in hospital because they can't get the care they need in their community.

A Bold Move By The NDP / Une décision courageu

Fair Vote Canada commends the NDP for including proportional representation in their final election platform.

“We congratulate Tom Mulcair for taking this bold position and agree with him that only proportional representation will Make Every Vote Count,” says Doug Bailie, President of Fair Vote Canada (FVC)

Today over half of all voters are unable to elect a representative who reflects their views. Proportional Representation would not only end First-Past-The-Post but firmly commit to moving away from all winner-take-all voting systems.

Kelly Carmichael, FVC's Executive Director, states, “Building an electoral system that entrenches good governance and puts citizens first by eliminating winner-take-all politics is a healthy step forward. We should aim for the best system for Canadians and not compromise our values by favouring partisan solutions. Federal election results exaggerate regional divisions, under-represents Canadian diversity and treat voters unequally.”

Three parties have now pledged to end first-past-the-post voting and...

no Saturday demonstration Oct. 10

With a 90% prediction of rain on Saturday, there is little chance of a healthy demonstration at the NDP rally.
Instead if you wish, go inside and try to get the party to work for Equal Rights for Palestinians and an end to the violence.

If it is not pouring rain on this Saturday Oct. 10 some of our members will be holding signs by the NDP event at Crystal Gardens in downtown Victoria. We welcome you to join us.

The NDP is not very supportive of the Palestinians and we hope some Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions awareness may influence them.
